I made a quick overview of the most essential Adobe Premiere shortcuts keys. It is part of my series of productivity enhancement keyboard shortcuts for creative software. They work on both windows and mac.

General Shortcuts:

  • New Project: Ctrl/⌘ + Alt + N

  • New Sequence: Ctrl/⌘ + N

  • Open Project: Ctrl/⌘ + O

  • Save: Ctrl/⌘ + S

  • Save As: Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + S

  • Undo: Ctrl/⌘ + Z

  • Redo: Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + Z

  • Import: Ctrl/⌘ + I

  • Export Media: Ctrl/⌘ + M

  • Quit Premiere: Ctrl/⌘ + Q


Timeline & Editing:

  • Razor Tool (Cut): C

  • Selection Tool: V

  • Track Select Forward Tool: A

  • Track Select Backward Tool: Shift + A

  • Ripple Edit Tool: B

  • Rolling Edit Tool: N

  • Zoom In: = (Equal sign)

  • Zoom Out: - (Minus sign)

  • Toggle Snap: S

  • Add Edit (Cut at Playhead): Ctrl/⌘ + K

  • Add Edit to All Tracks: Shift + Ctrl/⌘ + K

  • Ripple Delete: Shift + Delete

  • Enable/Disable Clip: Shift + E

  • Extend selected edit to playhead: E


Playback:

  • Play/Stop: Spacebar

  • Play In to Out: Shift + Space

  • Shuttle Left: J

  • Shuttle Right: L

  • Pause: K

  • Play Reverse: J

  • Play Forward: L

  • Go to In Point: Shift + I

  • Go to Out Point: Shift + O

  • Step Forward (1 frame): Right Arrow

  • Step Backward (1 frame): Left Arrow


Marking & Navigating:

  • Mark In: I

  • Mark Out: O

  • Clear In: Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + I

  • Clear Out: Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + O

  • Clear In and Out: Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + X

  • Go to In: Shift + I

  • Go to Out: Shift + O

  • Set Poster Frame: Shift + P

  • Jump to Next Edit Point: Down Arrow

  • Jump to Previous Edit Point: Up Arrow


Trimming & Transitions:

  • Trim Next Edit to Playhead: W

  • Trim Previous Edit to Playhead: Q

  • Apply Default Transition: Ctrl/⌘ + D

  • Apply Default Audio Transition: Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + D


Working with Clips:

  • Lift Clip (removes content but leaves gap): ; (Semi-Colon)

  • Extract Clip (removes content and closes gap): ' (Apostrophe)

  • Nudge Clip Left (1 frame): Alt/Option + Left Arrow

  • Nudge Clip Right (1 frame): Alt/Option + Right Arrow

  • Speed/Duration: Ctrl/⌘ + R

  • Match Frame: F


Working with Keyframes:

  • Add Keyframe: Ctrl/⌘ + Click on timeline or Effects Control

  • Next Keyframe: K

  • Previous Keyframe: J
